Berlin, Germany | October 2022
Berlin:
Weather:
High 50's, low 60's. Sunny. Light jacket needed.
Transportation:
We used public transportation, Uber, Bolt, and scooters. Everyone seems to bike in Berlin. No need to rent a car.
Kosher Food:
Brammibal's Donuts - Cutest donut shop. They have branches all across the city. Absolutely loved the Salted Caramel Hazelnut and White Chocolate with Strawberry donuts. The Bienenstich donut was...interesting.
Süßfein Brunnenstraße - Adorable ice cream shop. Check labels on each flavor to see if it's vegan, kosher parve, or kosher dairy.
Unser Cafe - We were told to check the chalkboard hanging in the store to see which pastries are Kosher. We had sourdough bread with rosemary. Delicious.
Hummus & Friends - Israeli cuisine restaurant... All kinds of hummus with pita, but ironically, no falafel. Shoutout to our waiter, Pescal! Lots of tequila on the house. So much food for so cheap! We were 5 friends and the total was around $75!
B-Cycle Studio - Fitness studio with small smoothie shop. Early morning vibes.
Attractions:
Berlin Festival of Lights - We happened to arrive during the 2 weeks that Berlin has an annual light show. At night, we walked around the main avenue, Unter Den Linden, and saw super cool light shows projected onto big buildings.
Mauerpark - We went twice. Once to see the Berlin Wall. It's full of grafitti. We actually met a gang there in middle of spraypainting the wall. The second time was on Sunday, to visit the flea market. So many cool souvenirs... Bring cash.
Bird Scooters - We rented electric scooters with the Bird app. We put in a random park as our destination and scooted through the city for a couple of hours. Ended up costing around $20 for 2 hours. Keep in mind, you need to scoot in the bike lanes, not on sidewalks. No wonder why we got a lot of stares... Also, there are certain no-scoot zones and your scooter will start beeping if you enter that zone. I believe you can technically get fined if you stay for too long.
Potsdam - We took the train with the BVG app to Potsdam. We did an audioguide at the Sanssouci palace and walked around a few other palaces. Beautiful grounds, but LOTS of walking. We walked around 16,000 steps if I remember correctly!
Jewish Museum - Fascinating museum. Covers Jewish history in Berlin from the Middle Ages until the present.
